April 2018
We are sad to see Boris Zacchetti leave after 4 years. He has now completed his thesis, which will be submitted to the committee soon. Congratulations with your new job!


February 2018
A warm welcome to Renée Kapteijn, who will join the Claessen lab as a new PhD student. She will study the process of spread of antimicrobial resistance genes in the environment. A great collaborative project with the labs of Gilles van Wezel, Mark van Loosdrecht and David Weissbrodt. More information about the project can be found here.


October 2017

We are very pleased to announce that Shraddha Shitut will join the lab as a post-doctoral fellow. She has obtained a grant via the Origins Center. Together with Alexander Kros, Hyun Youk (TU Delft) and Danny Rozen we will study the evolution of multicellular life. 


A new preprint is online on bioRxiv, describing how micro-encapsulation of streptomycetes can be beneficial for industrial enzyme production. The manuscript is available here.


September 2017

A collaborative paper with the van Wezel lab has been accepted for publication in Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. The manuscript describes an ImageJ plugin to analyse Streptomyces particles from liquid-grown cultures in an automatic manner. The manuscript is available here.

Congratulations to Xiaobo Zhong, who succesfully applied for a CSC fellowship to join the ClaessenLAB. He will start after the summer with his exciting project!


May 2017
The Claessen lab will be present at the International Symposium on the Biology of Actinomycetes in Korea (Jeju Island). Dennis will give a lecture on reversible metamorphosis.
